The journey so far…
“Be in control of your body not at it’s mercy.” Joseph Pilates
I started Pilates by accident. My mum dragged me along to a class and I was totally surprised to find that I really enjoyed it. It just clicked with me. Being a teenager, I didn’t stick to it for long but over the years I dipped in and out. I discovered that it was the only exercise that helped me with the back and neck ache that came as standard with my desk job. I realised that if I practiced regularly it not only addressed the discomfort that I experienced but removed it and kept it at bay.
“Every Moment of our life can be the beginning of great things.” Joseph Pilates
Once I discovered these unique benefits I was hooked. Not only was I pain free I also felt longer, leaner and stronger. Where I was taking lessons at the time a fellow pupil was training to be a Pilates teacher. This started the cogs turning and despite being painfully shy of talking in public I decided that this could be a great way to get over my fear and get me out of the office. I took the plunge and began my mat-work training with Body Control Pilates and later gained my Comprehensive Studio certification with Polestar Pilates. I feel fortunate and privileged to have taught now for 10 years delivering mat-work and studio classes to amazing clients.
“I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.” Joseph Pilates
Pilates is hugely beneficial for our mental health which is an area I am particularly interested in. It is an exercise programme that builds strength from within by targeting our deep postural muscles. As well as improving posture and alignment, Pilates helps maintain balance and makes the body more resistant and resilient to injury. Regular practice will help you loosen stiff joints, increase your energy levels and improve your core strength. As Joseph Pilates said “it is designed to give you suppleness, natural grace and skills that will be unmistakably reflected in the way you walk, play and work”.
“Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavour.” Joseph Pilates
Pilates is for everybody regardless of age or physical ability. I see the difference regular practice has on my clients and also myself and am passionate about teaching others the multi-layered benefits that it offers. I have gained a wealth of experience working with clients suffering from injuries and conditions including osteoporosis, disc herniation, Multiple Sclerosis, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Spondylolisthesis, arthritis, hip and knee replacements, shoulder impingements and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
I have been practising Pilates for a number of years and I found Danielle to be one of the best teachers I have had the pleasure of working with. This applies both to her studio classes as well as – now – her Zoom classes.
She is extremely knowledgeable and provides clear instructions and feedback during her sessions. She always creates a positive and enjoyable atmosphere which makes me look forward to our sessions.
She has helped me on several occasions to recover quickly from injuries and knows just from how I stand or walk if there is any imbalance that needs to be dealt with. I wholeheartedly recommend her.
The classes are varied and well structured and work most parts of the body. Both online and in person Danielle makes sure you are in the right position for the exercise.
I’ve been going to classes and logging on to them now for about 2 years and I always feel so much better after an hour of pilates with Danielle.
I love Danielle’s classes. They have helped me so much, especially throughout lockdown, before starting her classes, I always felt very lethargic and very achy from sitting around all day!
Since taking part, I have so much more energy throughout the day and feel much better within myself. It’s been amazing! The classes are so easy to join and follow and having the online class has made it so accessible.
I had never done Pilates before but I never feel as though I’m struggling or don’t understand what to do. It is always easy to ask for help if I need it and Danielle always makes sure I’m doing the move correctly which is very helpful and makes me feel confident.
I love the classes and can’t thank Danielle enough for showing me how much fun Pilates is and how great I feel after her classes!
